Aug. 24. -Aug 25, Day 1-2

The Uber arrived at 4:30 am. About 45 minutes later, we were standing at the Delta Counter in SFO. Though we both backed a carry-on suitcase and a backpack, we decided to check out bags rather than drag then around the Atlanta airport during the 5 hour layover.

That ended up being the right choice. I booked bullhead seats and with no under-the-seat storage, the overhead bin was quite packed.

We are at Burgers and Beer in the airport. The waitress recommended we share the fried chicken platter. Two pieces of chicken, tater tots, and collard greens, all perfectly cooked and delicious.

The 15 hour flight actually went smoothly. We'd been using the Timeshift app to help with jet lag. It tells you when to sleep and when to be awake on the plane. We followed its instructions and but for sleep on the plane.

We landed on Capetown just as the sun was going down. It had rained all day so we didn't get the iconic view of Table Mountain. Jenny and Pete picked us up at the airport. It was wonderful to see her after 20+ years.

They had another friend staying. She is from Israel so, in her honor, Pete and Jenny made an Israeli-inspired fish dinner.

After some talk about American politics, we all turned in.
